Amsterdam

Amserdam is the capital, and largest city of the Netherlands, located in the south of the province North Holland. The name Amsterdam literally means Amstel dam.[5] The city was founded in the late 12th century as a small fishing village. The historical centre is renowned for its concentric canals, largely built during the Dutch Golden Age in the 17th century. The city has been compared with Venice. Beyond the canals, the similarities have a basis in the cities' long histories of overseas trading, translating in openess and tolerance.

From its canals to world-famous museums and historical sights, Amsterdam is one of the most romantic and beautiful cities in Europe.

Amsterdam is also a city of tolerance and diversity. It has all the advantages of a big city: culture, nightlife, international restaurants, good transport - but is quiet, and largely thanks to its canals, has a little road traffic. In Amsterdam your destination is never far away, but get a bike for most authentic experience.

Museums are the main tourist attraction in Amsterdam. Everyone knows the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum and Stedelijk Museum, but there is much more. Amsterdam has over fifty museums which attract millions of visitors each year. See our suggested itineraries to explore these attractions.

Q: 1) Hotels list high/low season. Which season will it be?

2) What could we expect in temperatures? will A/C hotel be needed? Cold is not a problem but too warm is for us.

3) Are weekend rates higher or lower than weekdays?

4) Should we stay city center area or outskirts?

5) Is this a praticularly bad or good time to be there?

A: 1. Low in most hotels, but depends on the hotel and way you book them. 2. Normally, the temperature is between 10 and 15 Celsius. I’m too lazy to turn that in Fahrenheit ;-) But that's pretty cool. I don't think you need AC. 3. Again, depends on the arrangement. But combined arrangements are much cheaper then getting a hotel on the spot. 4. Inner-city. 5. Holland is beautiful all year round! But it depends on what you want to do. What do you want to do?
